My first love was horses. I was lucky enough to be raised around them and they continue to be a huge part of my life for over five decades. I spent my early years riding horses all over our family's ranch in the Malibu mountains. I also spent several years showing horses on the Pacific Coast Hunter, Jumper and Stock Horse Association circuit, eventually becoming PCHJSHA Stock Seat Champion at 13 years of age. I was so accomplished, yet had no concept of the natural language of horses. Still I was was deeply and inexplicably drawn to them as well as my natural surroundings.
My other passion, music, took up the first half of my adult life. Then about 15 years ago I started adopting young horses in need. My first thought was that I would sell them once they were of a certain age. Soon I realized that would be impossible. They had become part of my family. Like all relationships, they illuminated my strengths and weaknesses and gave my opportunity to grow in ways I had never imagined. Will the help of many inspiring mentors, I linked my vast riding experience as a youngster to a new found understanding of horses through natural horsemanship. There is so much to learn from horses about relationships and my experience has been profound. I am passionate about the benefits of body/mind/spirit work as well as good nutrition to augment the relationship further with our horses. Since their language is predominantly non verbal, being able to communicate through our body using focus, intention and energy effectively becomes paramount. I believe that this understanding of horses as well as being in nature has a profound healing effect on us personally, in our relationships, our communities and our planet. I never dreamed that my love of horses so many years ago would lead me here to a place of exquisite being.
Organizations are popping up everywhere using horses for healing from Hippotherapy to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. With a lifetime of horse experience on the ranch I grew up on, I teach people how to be around horses safely and and how to understand and communicate with them in a way that the horses will understand. I try to live by example every day. I love watching people discover themselves through this process. Embodied learning, empowering the body, educating of the mind and enlightening of the spirit. I look forward to sharing this experience with you.
