Wizard (1985–2022)

The Heart, Wisdom & Soul of the Ranch

Every story has a beginning.

Ours began with a horse named Wizard.

When Wizard joined our family in 1997 at the age of ten, he came from a life that had offered him far less than he deserved. While he wasn't a formal rescue, he found something every horse deserves—a place where he was understood, respected, and loved.

Over the next twenty-five years, Wizard became the quiet heart of our herd.

He welcomed every new horse.

He offered confidence instead of correction.

Safety instead of fear.

Presence instead of pressure.

Long before Natural Equine Interactive Growth & Healing™ (NEIGH™) had a name, Wizard was already teaching its first lessons.

Presence. Trust. Relationship. Softness.

When he crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2022 at the remarkable age of thirty-seven, his wisdom did not disappear.

It lived on in the horses he had mentored.

🌱 CHAPTER ONE

A Promise to Rescue

2002–2003

In 2002, Dusty's Blue Rose became our first PMU rescue.

Soon afterward, August joined the herd.

Both arrived young, uncertain, and far from home.

Wizard quietly became their teacher.

What he offered them couldn't be measured in training.

He gave them something far more important.

He showed them what it felt like to belong.

Learning From Horses

As the rescued horses settled into their new lives, something unexpected began to happen.

They started teaching people.

Horse Mornings became one of the Ranch's earliest educational programs, inviting participants to slow down, observe, communicate, and discover authentic leadership through the wisdom of horses.

Following the Eaton and Palisades wildfires, The Healing Equine Ranch opened its gates to offer restorative experiences where people could slow down, breathe, reconnect with nature, and spend quiet time alongside rescued horses.

The horses continued doing what they had always done.

They simply showed up.
